A Practice for a Home Without a Ceiling is an ongoing queer familial practice of navigating home, distance, and belonging with place and within oneself. Jun! performs with her father via Zoom and screens a performance film where Jun! co-searches with her father for his demolished childhood home in Suzhou, Wujiang over Zoom. I then smoked the joint and recited a memory about attending his Zoom funeral, processing how the digital procession made the immateriality of death even more immaterial—unable to feel his departure, to see him, nor to touch him. This exhibition reflects on the suicidal undertones of endurance performance art. On one end of the gallery shows a performance where I spent a night in a bulldozer, on the other end, a performance where I sat on the margins of an active highway. In the center of the exhibition, a naturally patina-ed car grounds the exhibition with its machinic presence and metallic age. It serves as a reflective body that quietly signals to the death drive, contact with heavy machinery, and passage of time that the two video projections sandwiching it contain.&nbsp; In the performance, I took a sleeping pill and fell asleep in the car hugging a rock. I left the audience a video where I monologued instructions to strip the car of all objects, replace them with hand-tie buoquets of highway wildflowers, and to finally collectively wake me up softly. The audience is invited to control two sticks protruding from the white box that had webcams mounted on the other end. Each stick’s webcam feed is livestreamed into my VR goggle to form my vision; left stick connected to my “left eye”, and right stick to my “right eye”. MIRROR, THE MIRROR IS A WEBFilm, 37 minutes 2025 A 37-minute uncut film consisting of handheld footage featuring a butterfly struggling in a spiderweb for the entirety of the film. Besides a brief frame of a foot and a shadow, the camera operator’s presence is mainly made material through handling noise, camera shake, uncut perspective shifts, and a brief intertitle. Through the spectrally durational presence of the operator who never sets out to free the butterfly, the film animates the act of witnessing as an act that is deeply personal.
