THE SHADOW IS A MIRROR, THE MIRROR IS A WEB
Film, 37 minutes
2025

A 37-minute uncut film consisting of handheld footage featuring a butterfly struggling in a spiderweb for the entirety of the film. Besides a brief frame of a foot and a shadow, the camera operator’s presence is mainly made material through handling noise, camera shake, uncut perspective shifts, and a brief intertitle. Through the spectrally durational presence of the operator who never sets out to free the butterfly, the film animates the act of witnessing as an act that is deeply personal.
